Turning 90 and Celebrating at Her Old High School!

Walt’s mother, Lu, turned 90 on April 26!  She decided to move forward with a birthday party since all of the attendees had been vaccinated.  She had been doing such a good job keeping her distance from people as best she could. But you only turn 90 once, and not many people do. She decided that she deserved to splurge a bit.

We looked for an Airbnb to rent out for the weekend near her home in Kansas, so we could be together as a family and invite her brothers, sisters, and besties over. We discovered that the high school she and Dad had both attended was recently turned into an Airbnb.  What a perfect setting it was for the celebration!  Mind you; it was a one-building schoolhouse built in the early 1900s!  She graduated in a class of 3!   This is not a typo.  Yes, a class of 3!  Each of the four grades attended school in the same building.

Lu loves sunflowers, the Kansas state flower. She made cookies for the event in the shape of sunflowers and decorated them as such.  She wrapped each individually to prevent the spread of germs.  Lu survived the polio pandemic and now the COVID.  She is healthy, strong, a good driver, and still living by herself.

We all look up to following her lead as a strong individual.  And we hope to copy her by living a long, healthy, and strong life!
