Visa’s New Address Rule Could Cut Your Processing Fees

Visa’s New Address Rule Could Cut Your Processing Fees featured image

We would like to inform you that Visa will be requiring that merchants enter address and zip code for all keyed in transactions. If you enter this data, prompted by your terminal or virtual terminal, and fill in the address and zip code, then the wholesale, interchange rate will be lowered.  If you choose to skip over these fields and leave them blank, then you will miss out on the savings and pay the same rate as you do now.

Previously, desktop terminals and virtual terminals asked for this information, but allowed merchants to skip over the fields. Now Visa is offering you a lower rate if you fill in the data for address and zip code on phone orders and virtual terminal transactions.  They are hoping this will prevent some of the fraud out there and are offering you a “reward” to help them.

As of October 2025, merchants will be charged a slightly lower wholesale, interchange rate if the address and zip code are filled out on virtual terminal and phone orders on a terminal. So please be sure to NOT BYPASS the fields and be sure to ANSWER the prompts on your terminal.
