What is tokenization and how does it protect your e-commerce business and your card holders information as they enter it onto your website?

Tokenization is a step up from encryption. Encryption scrambles the credit card data in an algorithm and attaches a key to that algorithm along with the transaction. But hackers have been able to get access to that key and decode the algorithm.

Tokenization on the other hand, scrambles the number into meaningless characters and then stores that new token representing the card holder number off site away from the website away from the processor in what’s called a token vault. Hackers are not able to access the vault or unscramble the information.
