Here are some tips to avoid the entrapment by a merchant services salesperson into getting stuck with hidden fees.
The problem with choosing a credit card processor is the complexity of the fees and sadly it seems that 95% of the sales-people out there are scamming and lying to you outright just to pay on their commission. They give you a low rate but they forget to tell you that it only applies to debit cards. They tell you about their low monthly fee but forget to tell you about five other monthly fees. They say they have no termination fee but as it turns out in the fine print they’re not allowed to waive the termination fee. They say they have 24-7-365 support but you’re dialing 1-800-IGNORE-ME. The person answering the phone doesn’t have any relationship to you and servicing your account. They’re just paid an hourly wage to read through a script. The other problem is they don’t tell you that every six months they’re going to raise your rates.
