How Credit Card Processing Sales Changed My Life

Hi, Gingergaye here with Electronic Money Company. I want to share the story of how I got into credit card processing sales and why I’m still passionate about this business after 25 years.

Back then, I was working as an office manager for a company that sold and supported software for real estate agents. The software was called Top Producer. I handled the books and kept the office organized, but one day the owner asked me to start calling on real estate brokers.

A funny thing happened — the brokers tried to recruit me to sell real estate for them. I thought about it, but the idea of earning nothing for six months and taking a long time to build up income didn’t sit well with me. With eight kids, that felt overwhelming. So I started looking into other sales opportunities.

That’s when I was introduced to merchant services — in other words, credit card processing sales for business owners.

I liked it right away because, compared to real estate, the turnaround was fast. I could present, close, and receive commissions quickly. Plus, I could do it part-time while keeping my 8–5 job.

So I got creative with my schedule.
• From 7 to 8 a.m., I called contractors and auto repair shops since they opened early.
• During my lunch breaks, I visited businesses near my office.
• From 5 to 6 p.m., I stopped by retail stores and restaurants on my drive home.

With eight children, I needed my evenings, but on Saturdays I brought my youngest, who was five at the time, with me on sales calls. She loved holding the credit card terminal and showing it to people.

Within two weeks, I had my first sale. Within two months, I had enough monthly residual income to feel confident leaving my office job.

Then life took a turn. My husband, Walt, had an on-site injury and was stuck at home on half pay. Suddenly we had eight kids, a small amount of savings, me working on straight commission, and Walt only receiving half his income.

We had a serious “come to Jesus” talk about our finances. Walt realized that even if he couldn’t work physically, he could make phone calls. So he started dialing merchants and setting appointments. I kept working, but because prospects could sense my fear, I went two weeks without a sale. Meanwhile, the appointments Walt booked turned into sales for him.

We pulled ourselves together, encouraged by my father-in-law, and pushed forward — because we really didn’t have a choice.

And now here we are, 25 years later.

Adding sales reps has helped us grow, but the real reason we’ve succeeded is simple: our whole company treats merchants the way we want to be treated.

Our industry has a reputation for scammers and bad practices. We do the opposite. We offer fair rates, honesty, integrity, and true white-glove service. Because of that, our merchants stay with us for the life of their business.

We are so grateful for our clients — truly the greatest people. We have a wonderful family of merchants.

Thank you all for your trust and referrals. Wishing you the most blessed holiday season.
